52 Projects Calls For Participation

Brought My Lunch

  • Brought My Lunch is a photo group to showcase the lunch you brought to work. The goal is to create an incentive to 1) bring lunch to work (instead of buying expensive, less healthy meals around the office) and 2) to bring better lunches to work, lunches that are worthy of not just eating, but photographing. So pack that lunch, break out your camera, and submit your photos to the group pool.

What's Your Project?
Call For Participation

What is that cool thing that you've done, that you do, or have a plan to create?

Write it up and send it along for possible publication at WhatsYourProject.com. Send it to: whatsyourproject AT yahoo DOT com

If there's a story that goes along with the project, send that along as well. Keep it short. Less than 500 words or so. And no images. This is an all text project. Check out some of the projects already published to get a basic idea of how this works.

NOTE: Please do not send your project as an attachment -- it will not be opened. Submit your project in the text area of the email message. Thanks.

I would also like to publish your name and the city/state/country in which you reside. Please include that information. If you do not want a byline, just let me know.

Not all projects will be posted. That's okay. You've written it down and there are other places to post it.

You own the copyright to your project, so you can publish it wherever you want. The more places, the better.

NOTE: At some point, the projects featured at WhatsYourProject.com will be collected and printed up in a What's Your Project? book. By submitting your project, you are saying that's okay. The idea for the What's Your Project? book right now is that copies will be placed in random places, left for whoever happens to come across them. I will be employing friends and acquaintances worldwide to help with this random distribution. Whoever finds the book will be encouraged to read it, share it, and then leave it somewhere to be discovered by someone new.

How this site began:
WhatsYourProject.com is a component of the 52 Projects project. 52 Projects began as a simple list of projects that I began writing and posting at 52projects.com in early 2002. It started with project #1, and continued on until I reached Project #52 in late 2003. Once I finished writing my projects, the natural progression was to ask, "What's Your Project?". People from all over have been sending in some wonderful, creative, inventive projects, and new ones continue to arrive.

Where are the original 52 Projects?
Those, along with new essays and resources, have been published in the 52 Projects book, which was released in Nov. 2005 by Penguin's Perigee imprint. More information on the book can be found here.

And I should note that 52projects.com continues to evolve. I'm working to make it a project hub. The site is all about projects and project-making. I also post the What's Your Project? projects at 52projects.com (see them here), as well as project-maker interviews, links, cool project alerts and more. Check it out and please come back regularly.

Some notes on submitting a project to WhatsYourProject.com:
I don't want to get too specific here, as I want to leave this as open as possible. But here are a few things to keep in mind as you submit your project:

  • If you are writing up a project that asks people to submit something, you should have a fairly established project underway. The place to announce it should not be at WhatsYourProject.com. At the very least, you should have a website where people can go to get more information, and can see that you are truly invested in the project you are proposing or working on.
  • If you are letting people know about an ongoing project or opening up your project to submissions or involvement from others, make an effort to really get to the heart of the matter of what your project is all about in the way you write it up for WhatsYourProject.com. Explain what inspired you to create your project, how it has impacted you, what it means to you. It should not just read like submission guidelines.
  • Keep in mind that people are not necessarily looking to do these projects exactly as written -- they might just be looking for inspiration, or a jumping off point.
