What's Your Project?
Project #101
Sit down with a sibling, old friend, or parent, and do an "imaginary walking tour" of your old neighborhood, house, or some place that you spent a lot of time and has meaning from your past. Try to think of everything about it you can remember.

Alright, this one is really nerdy. But one night my brother, cousin, and I were sitting around drinking and reminiscing about childhood summers spent at our grandparents' house at the Jersey shore. We were sharing memories of incidents, but pretty soon we were actually trying to recall in detail the way the house looked, sounded and smelled when we were little. The squeak the backdoor made, the way the sandy soil under the pool deck felt when we jumped out of the water to retrieve a beach ball. The color of the drapes in the bedrooms. We started quizzing each other -- it was incredible what we remembered. And keep in mind these were guys, too -- but they remembered things about the house's upholstery.

Just a note to say that I love this idea. I wouldn't have thought of it on my own! I plan to do it with some of my family members, and then record some of the memories in my journal.
My children might be interested, and it not, I may need the help remember myself 40 years from now.
