Summer Reading, Future Tense
I know there's all kinds of talk about summer reading or beach reads right now. I get it. It's a way to package certain types of books for a certain period of time in certain types of magazines. So I wanted to give a shout out here at 52projects.com to the books of Future Tense Books. Good books for any day, whether you're at the beach or spending your summer sitting in a cubicle breathing in that airplane-like air conditioned air (it's 90 degress outside, but it's sweater weather freezing at your desk). Future Tense Books has been around for years now, an independent press run by Kevin Sampsell, a writer himself who puts out all manner of stories and anthologies and books. I'm a believer in this little press's output -- I actually collect the books. I hope you'll support Future Tense and make some of its books part of your summer reading. The big publishers really do have a machine that hypes and promotes. Kevin Sampell, zinesters, good writing, buttons, alternative media and indie stores are the components of the machine that make Future Tense go. Worth exploring, worth supporting -- hell, worth collecting!
Thanks for that nice tip. Sitting in my cubicle this summer, I'm always looking for more book.
I'm working my way through the Future Tense book list. Any favorites?

Let's see, I'll recommend Magdalen Powers' "The Heart Is Also a Furnace." Wonderful collection of stories. Definitely worth checking out.
