JEFFREY YAMAGUCHI BIO (circa 2005)
(See a more current bio here.)

Click on the picture for the story of why my good friend Ada gave me this shirt.

I write and publish websites.

I started a magazine for senior citizens back in 1994. It failed, but I did publish two issues.

My first job out of college was as a news clerk for a small daily paper in the East County of San Diego. I typed in letters-to-the-editor, wrote obituaries, collected up all the faxes, and let people use the pen on my desk.

I was let go from my first newspaper reporter job because I "had an agenda."

The websites I am actively publishing right now are 52 Projects, WhatsYourProject.com, Bookmouth.com, and workingfortheman.com.

I once thought I could make a living publishing my zines. This period lasted about a year. I racked up about $9,000 in credit card debt.

I have worked in the marketing departments of several book publishers. The highlight was getting to speak to Studs Terkel on the phone when I was organizing one of his book tours.

My writing, both fiction and nonfiction, has been published in many print and online publications, including Fortune Magazine, The Industry Standard, Playboy.com, Bankrate.com, Guyville.com, Clamor Magazine, A. Magazine, Pindeldyboz, Inkspot.com, TeeVee.org, The Morning News, FamilyPC.com, Quick Fiction, Eyeshot.net, The Glut, Word Riot, Bullfight Review and more. Links to many of the stories can be found here.

In 2000, I self-published Working For The Man: Stories From Behind The Cubicle Wall - a collection of stories about the world of work.

I am the jackass not wearing a wetsuit. I still have nightmares about the freezing water.

I like to run. I have done both the New York City Marathon and the Chicago Triathlon.

I have led publishing and writing workshops at the Yale University Independent Media Conference, the Allied Media Conference in Bowling Green, OH, and at the Asian American Writers' Workshop in New York City. I was a presenter at the Firecracker Alternative Book Awards in 2002, and I have participated as an exhibitor in numerous book and zine festivals, events and conferences, including the Alternative Press Expo, BookExpo, the Anarchist Book Fair, and the Allied Media Conference.

I was once named the Employee of the Month by the temp agency I was doing work for. My name is on a plaque in the temp agency's office.

Just one of my favorite pictures. We are in Italy. My wife is telling a funny story. Picture taken by our friend Joe.
